The App to Improve Motivation (AIM) works to help you achieve personal lifestyle aims.

AIM is based on the clinical principles of “Motivational Interviewing” which is clinically proven to help people make lifestyle changes and stick with them. AIM can be used to enhance motivation in many areas of lifestyle including: stopping smoking, reducing alcohol intake, increasing exercise levels, managing weight, improving work-life balance, reducing drug use, taking medication as prescribed or enhancing motivation to study.

Do you want to change your health behaviours but find that you lack motivation? Do you start making changes but quickly slip back to your old habits? Have you tried other “motivational” apps which solely rely upon sending you clichéd messages or pictures of fluffy kittens? If so, AIM is the App for you!

Changing health behaviours is tough - we often start with good intentions but temptation or a lack of motivation means that we overlook our reasons to change and slip back to where we were before. Getting professional support for behaviour change can be expensive, exclusive and not always available when you need it. AIM has been designed by clinicians with over 30 years’ experience to give people the tools they need to support health behaviour change.

Main Features:

AIM is highly personalised by asking you questions about your behaviour so the functions are tailored to your targets and needs. AIM helps you to consider and remind yourself of your specific reasons for change and to build your motivation.

This app contains a number of unique features to help you on your way to a better lifestyle using small achievable steps:

Regular motivational assessments - To help guide you to the support you need and to track your motivation over time.

Emergency button - For when you need a motivational boost during times of temptation or low motivation. This feature allows you to input your own video, text, sound or picture files which are powerful motivating triggers. The emergency button also has an option of automatically sending a message to one of your supportive friends or perhaps a healthcare professional who you may be working with.

Locations feature - AIM allows you to specify map locations that you should avoid to help you resist temptation (eg. bars or pubs). Should you enter the area an alarm will sound and your personalised message will be displayed. Similarly, your behaviour change may require you to be at a certain location (eg. a gym) and the locations feature can be set to play a congratulatory message when you arrive.

Motivational exercises – Four motivational exercises are available. If these are used with careful thought they will help you to increase your understanding and motivation to make lifestyle changes.

Planning tasks - AIM will guide you to plan achievable weekly tasks and goals so that you progress towards reaching your overall lifestyle targets.

Progress screens – To view changes in your motivation and achievement of tasks over time.

Reminders – AIM provides you with timely reminders about your tasks and goals and these reminders can be personalised as required.

Social media integration –You may wish to share successes via social media and to gain additional support.

Support screens - Provide understandable, up-to-date information and advice about each lifestyle area and give links to further information.

Once you buy the App there are no further charges for updates or in-App purchases.
